The Primary Film Literacy programme is based on the experiences and successes of the 3 year Media Literacy Project aimed at raising attainment and engagement in reading and writing at KS2. 

The Media Literacy Project was a three year project from 2012 - 2015 with data showing an average of 4+ APS each year of the project for targeted children in reading and writing as shown in the summary below.

Year One (October 2012 – June 2013)

10 schools and 13 classes took part with approximately 325 children involved.

Average attainment from 6 sample children from each class = 4.01 APS for writing between November and the end of the year.

Year Two (September 2013 – June 2014)

We retained most teachers from year one as leading teachers and tracked their data. They also mentored new teachers

24 schools and 26 classes took part with approximately 625 children involved.

Average attainment from 6 sample children from each class = 3.98 APS for writing between November and the end of the year and 4.15 for reading

Year 3 (September 2014 – June 2015)

Five leading teachers retained but data from their classes not tracked this year

13 schools and 13 classes took part with approximately 325 children involved.

The teachers and children achieved an average points score of 4.7 in writing and 4.28 for reading.

Year 4 (September 2015-June 2016)

The project ran for a fourth year with eleven teachers. The three year project tracked reading and writing data. We decided not to track data this year due to the changes in assessment and the scrapping of levels.
