The Bradford Learning Network Overview

The BLN is a not for profit provider of Fast, Reliable and Secure Internet access for Educational establishments.

As part of the BLN School Community you receive best value for money on a scalable, dedicated leased line to your school server room, not the cabinet in the street or to the local exchange. This provides you with 100% of the access you pay for with no caps or limits on upload or download and the option to upgrade your connection at any point during your contract so your connection can increase as your usage increases.  Along with the way we deliver the solution, it doesn’t matter if you are in the centre of the district, the outskirts with limited access to equitable access or even in a different authority* the BLN can be delivered right to your server room!

The Virgin Media IPVPN technology is ideal for schools sharing services with other schools on the BLN as the data never leaves our network.  Smoothwalls state of the art web filtering gives you the personalised access you need along with a firewall that sits inside your school. This along with the BLN central firewall at the core of our network gives you the additional confidence that your School is Safeguarding children on the internet and supporting Headteachers in meeting their responsibilities around data security and risk.

The BLN also offers access to further savings on collaborative purchases. Previous purchases have seen Bradford Schools save £265,000 on their EducationCity software purchase, a saving of £2,300 per school!

All of this is delivered by the BLN’s not for profit Education focused team who are an integral part of the wider Curriculum Innovation Team within City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council.  The service has been procured through the YHPSN Framework.

In a nutshell, the BLN brings each of your pupils the safe, fast, fun internet access they deserve for as little as £6 each per year plus the cost of the speed you choose for your connection with no additional charge for staff access.
