English: New (or not) to Year 5 and Year 6 - an in depth course for Year 5 and Year 6 teachers

Please note that if you want to attend day 2 of this event it is scheduled for the 10 January 2019

Outcomes: Participants will be introduced to a range of engaging teaching and revision techniques to help them to prepare for the end of KS2 assessments in 2019.

Target audience: Teachers who are new to Year 5 and Year 6 or those who would like a ‘refresher’. Year 5 teachers are encouraged to attend with (or without) Y6 colleagues so that in depth revision and preparation can spread over two years.

Course outline (further details below)

This is a modular course and participants can sign up for all, or part, of the course. The Modules are:

Day 1 – Module 1 –  11 October 2018 – 9.00 am – 3.30 pm – Planning an effective teaching sequence for fiction in Year 5 and Year 6 and statutory assessment overview

Free book: there will be a free copy of a quality children’s book for participants to take away at the end of day 1

Day 2 – Module 2  – 10 January 2019 – 9.00 am – 12 .30 pm – Teaching poetry, non-fiction and reading and writing across the curriculum

Day 2 – Module 3  – 10 January 2019  – 1.15 pm – 4.00 pm – Spelling in Year 5 and Year 6 – digital and paper and pen ideas to revise the Year 3/4 curriculum and prepare for the test in Year 6  featuring guest presenter, Tim Bleazard, from The innovation Centre.
